Grant transitions[edit]

On the first use of the application, it will require permissions for location, camera, Bluetooth, and internal storage. For the correct use of the APP, it is necessary to accept all of them. It is worth remembering that the application does not save sensitive data. See the Privacy Policy.

On the application's main screen, we have 3 buttons: SYNC ARIS, SAVED WORKLIST, and NEW WORKLIST. As the Figure below shows.

Main screen app

Bluetooth conection[edit]

First, you need to download the worklist that is available in ARIS. To do this, click on the NEW WORKLIST button. From there we will have a screen to choose the Bluetooth devices. The SAVED WORKLIST button is an option without a direct connection to the computer running ARIS, however, it is only accessible when you have previously downloaded the worklist.

Remember that in order for the connection between the computer with ARIS and the mobile device to work, they must be close to each other and both must have the Bluetooth turned on. If this is so, we will see in the app the identifier of the computer where ARIS is being executed. In the case of the example picture above we should click "fedora-allisson-dantas" (this name will change according to your computer's settings, to change this name you must go into the Bluetooth settings of the computer where ARIS is running). The next step is to simply click on it.

The next screen will show the worklist with the tests that can be performed. When clicking on one of them, the app will request a verification character. This is the last letter in the identifier of the sample that is registered in ARIS, and that should have been written in the slide.

From version 1.5 of the app onwards, there is the possibility of capturing in manual or automatic mode using the low-cost robotic blade movement system.

Automatic mode[edit]

  • Select the Arduino device (Imaging-...) on the Connect screen on your smartphone. It could appear in the “Paired Devices” or “ “Device Discovery” menus.
  • Click the “Start capturing” button to perform a diagnosis.
  • Perform the first focus of the microscope manually. When the focus is okay, click Start Capture and wait until the process finishes. The app has a small neural network, which when it detects 5 malaria parasites or is not detected within 100 images, the system stops reading. At this point, you can click save.

Manual Mode[edit]

To do this, simply click on the MANUAL MODE button and go to the image capture screen. In the image capture screen, you must click on the center button to capture each image. When you are satisfied, click on the save button. After this step, the app returns to the start screen.

Image Transfer[edit]

The synchronization with ARIS is performed through the main screen and the SYNC ARIS button. After clicking it you will be directed again to the Bluetooth device choice, and on choosing the identified computer, the app will send all the test images available in the app to ARIS.
